1. Confirm that the part being replaced is the exhaust bellows and matches Volvo Penta reference 3888916 before disassembly.
2. Clean and inspect the mating exhaust necks on the transom shield and drive housing so the sealing surfaces are free of corrosion, old residue or burrs.
3. Seat the exhaust bellows squarely onto the mounting necks without twisting or pinching the convolutions, and position and tighten the clamps in accordance with the Volvo Penta service manual for your specific drive model.
