This page sells one upper hose only. Need two uppers in one box → GH 17B2004 (3852696 ×2). It is not a sterndrive transom seal bellow and not the lower exhaust hose.

Which hose is this?

It is the short upper exhaust hose / coupler on the engine-bay center-rise wet-exhaust path. You open the engine hatch — this is not the cone-clutch / SX transom exhaust bellow.

It is not lower hose 3863450 (GH 17B1013) or legacy lower 3852742 (GH 17B1012), not EFI-only 3853608, not cone-clutch transom bellow 3850426 (GH 17B1010), and not the four-piece upper+lower pack (GH 17B4001).

Signs yours is due

• Center-rise upper joint in the engine bay: the short ~4×4.5-inch hose is cracked, soft, or heat-glazed — stamped 3852696 / 18-2779 when readable.
• Soot or cooling-water drip at the upper riser / elbow connection (not a transom-side bilge leak from a sterndrive seal bellow).
• After an overheat, this short upper coupler took a permanent oval and no longer seats cleanly under the clamps.
• Divert: you need two uppers → GH 17B2004. Lower position / bump hose → GH 17B1012 / 17B1013. Transom cone-clutch bellow → GH 17B1010.

Install tips in the engine bay

Engine-bay center-rise upper-hose work. Cold engine; disconnect battery; follow the OMC / Volvo Penta exhaust procedure for your assembly. You usually do not pull the sterndrive for this short upper coupler. Do not copy a full transom-kit adhesive / expander / multi-boot recipe unless your manual requires it for this joint.

1. Confirm the old hose is upper 3852696 (~4×4.5 in) — not lower 3863450 / 3852742 and not transom 3850426.
2. Support the joint; loosen clamps; remove the old short hose; clean mating tubes.
3. Seat the new hose fully without twist; place clamps on the clamp lands if supplied in your package.
4. Tighten to the service-manual specification for that assembly (no universal torque invented on this page).
