Which pump is this?

This is a VRO (variable-ratio oiling) fuel/oil pump for Johnson / Evinrude 3-cylinder 60 / 70 HP 2-stroke outboards — not a plain diaphragm fuel pump and not a 4-stroke EFI pump. Current 4-wire replacements are 5007420 (1990–2001 60 / 70 HP rows), 5007421 (1985 60 HP row), and 5007423 (3-wire-to-4-wire kit on 1985–1990 60 / 70 HP rows). Predecessors include 5004558 / 5004559 / 5004562 and 438400. Compatible with the five HP/year groups in the table. It keeps oil injection working. 5007422 on this site is the opposite kit (premix / fuel-only conversion).

Signs yours is due

• 60 / 70 HP 3-cyl 2-stroke smokes heavily, or the oil tank never drops — VRO pump not pulling oil.
• No-oil warning horn, or a dry oil line at the pump while fuel still flows.
• Hard start plus a fuel leak at the VRO body / pulse limiter, 4-wire plug still connected.
• Not a 4-stroke 60/70 EFI fuel pump (5030697). Not a cooling impeller.

Will it fit?

Compatible with Johnson / Evinrude 60 HP and 70 HP 3-cylinder 2-stroke groups in the table: 5007421 on 1985 60 HP; 5007423 on 1986–1990 60 HP and 1985–1990 70 HP; 5007420 on 1990–2001 60 HP and 1991–2001 70 HP. Serial is often not listed — match the stamp and wire count (3-wire vs 4-wire). Not 90 / 115 HP V4 (21FP007) and not 150–200 HP premix conversion (21FP008).

Engine horsepower alone does not prove fit. Match the number stamped on the pump you remove to the OEM column.

OEM and swap numbers

OEM / predecessor numbers keep the engine-brand column. Aftermarket cross-refs are numbers only.

Wrong part

• NOT 5030697 — that is a 4-stroke EFI fuel pump. Old drafts used it as this SKU’s title. Wrong product.
• NOT 5007422 — premix / fuel-only conversion (21FP008). That kit removes VRO oiling.
• NOT 1399-07352 — non-oiling replacement aimed at 90° V4 / V6, not this 3-cyl 60/70.
• NOT VRO rebuild kit 435921. This page is the complete pump (or 3-to-4-wire replacement kit 5007423).

What ships

One VRO fuel/oil pump assembly (4-wire 5007420 / 5007421 family, or 3-to-4-wire 5007423 style). No extra oil tank, no pulse limiter unless it is on the pump in the photos. Not a premix conversion.

Often replaced together

90 / 115 HP V4 VRO is 21FP007. Premix conversion 5007422 is 21FP008. Pulse limiter and O-rings are sold separately.

Install

Photograph the oil line, fuel lines, pulse hose, and the 3-wire vs 4-wire plug. If you are converting 3-wire to 4-wire, 5007423 is the kit style on the 1985–90 rows. Do not install 5007422 unless you intend to premix oil forever. Seat the pulse limiter / gasket, fill the oil tank, prime fuel, and watch the oil line move after start. A pump body stamped 5004554 inside a 5007423 box can be normal kit marking — match the kit number on the carton to 5007423.

Will this fit my 60 / 70 HP Johnson with VRO?

If it is a 3-cylinder 2-stroke in the year groups in the table, yes — match 5007420 vs 5007423 vs 5007421. 4-stroke 60/70 EFI is not this pump.

Is 5007422 the same?

No. 5007422 is fuel-only / premix conversion. This page keeps VRO oiling.

3-wire or 4-wire?

Later replacements are 4-wire (5007420). 5007423 is the 3-wire-to-4-wire kit on the 1985–90 rows.

Is this a fuel filter? Old title said filter.
